NASCIO's mission is to foster government excellence through quality business practices, information management, and technology policy.NASCIO's vision is government in which the public trust is fully served through the efficient and effective use of technology.
As guiding principles, the National Association of State Chief Information Officers will:
- be non-partisan,
- be ethical in our actions and relationships,
- foster policies that support the public trust,
- focus on multi-jurisdictional issues,
- promote open standards and best practices, and
- promote strategic alignment of government technology investments and state business agendas.
The Association’s Goals and Objectives to realize our mission and vision include:
GOAL - NASCIO IS THE PREMIER NETWORK AND RESOURCE FOR STATE CIOS
- Improve state CIOs awareness of strategic information technology issues and solutions
- Identify information technology best practices and innovations, and promote their adoption
- Facilitate the sharing of experiences and expertise between members
GOAL - ADVANCE STATE CIOS AS KEY MEMBERS OF THE LEADERSHIP TEAM
- Promote transition planning, processes and mentoring tactics for new state CIOs
- Continue to advance the role of the state CIO as the policy and business leader of information technology
- Identify opportunities to reinforce the role of the state CIO
- Recognize leadership, innovation and best practices in state information technology
GOAL - NASCIO IS AN EFFECTIVE ADVOCATE FOR INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY POLICY AT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT
- Strengthen and deepen existing relationships with key strategic partners to advance NASCIO’s mission
- Promote and advocate the role of state CIO as the principal oversight of state information technology resources and policies to the Federal executive branch
- Promote cross-boundary initiatives, solutions and relationships
- Seek funding for developing and protecting the information technology infrastructure of the 21st century
- Promote and communicate the critical role of information technology in the operation and continuity of state government
NASCIO relies on its strategic plan to guide the development of the annual business plan and supporting performance measurement. Linked to objectives, the performance measures and metrics in the business plan define the strategic initiatives, outcomes, key performance indicators and vital signs of NASCIO for the program year. Strategic initiatives to be addressed are determined by the Executive Committee after assessing state member priorities, as well as emerging national trends and issues.
