BiographyMark Bengel assumed the role of Chief Information Officer for the State of Tennessee in August 2007. Prior to that Mr. Bengel served as Chief Technology Officer for the state for three years. As CIO, he provides vision, leadership and technical support for the state’s information technology community. He sets the overall technical direction of the state’s IT infrastructure and is responsible for the operations of the state's Office for Information Resources.
Before his appointment in Tennessee, Mr. Bengel served as CIO for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and also in the Cabinet for Families and Children.
Mr. Bengel has worked in the information
technology field for more than 27 years
with experience in both the public and
private sectors. Throughout his career, he
has managed multi-million dollar projects,
specialized in successfully reorganizing
organizations for cost savings and
improved performance, and focused on
improving customer relations. Mr. Bengel
holds a Bachelors of Science from
