BiographyMark Bengel was appointed Chief Technology Officer for the State of Tennessee in 2004 and was promoted to the position of Chief Information Officer in August 2007. As CIO, he provides vision, leadership and technical support for the state's information technology community. He sets the overall technical direction of the state's IT infrastructure and is responsible for the operations of the Office for Information Resources.
Before his appointment in Tennessee, Mr. Bengel served as CIO for the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services. Mr. Bengel has worked in the information technology field for more than 25 years with experience in both the public and private sectors. He has a proven background in strengthening organizations through business alignment, value engineering, strategic planning, and metrics-based service delivery. Mr. Bengel holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cleveland College.
