NASCIO, the National Association of State Chief Information Officers, represents state chief information officers and information technology executives and managers from the states, territories, and the District of Columbia. NASCIO's mission is to foster government excellence through quality business practices, information management, and technology policy. The primary state members are senior officials from state government who have executive-level and statewide responsibility for information technology leadership. State officials who are involved in agency level information technology management may participate as associate members. Representatives from federal, municipal, international government and non-profit organizations may also participate as members. Private-sector firms join as corporate members and participate in the Corporate Leadership Council.Membership in NASCIO provides a wealth of information, best practices, networking opportunities and other benefits to states and state CIOs. Networking & learning forums:
NASCIO's Midyear and Annual conferences are the preeminent national forums for information technology in the states. For more information, please go to www.nascio.org/events.
Listservs: NASCIO Listservs are an excellent forum for asking questions of your fellow CIOs. NASCIO currently maintains 9 listservs, including CIO-Only forums as well as issue specific groups. For more information on NASCIO's Listservs go to www.nascio.org/membership/listserv.cfm.
Participation on committees: NASCIO has several standing committees and working groups in which to participate, such as the Programs and Awards committees. Advocacy & Representation in Washington: Through regular testimony and frequent meetings with federal partners, NGA, and related organizations NASCIO ensures that state IT issues are represented in Washington. NASCIO also has a Washington representative to assist with outreach and lobbying.

Opportunities for professional recognition: NASCIO annually celebrates outstanding achievements in the field of information technology through our Recognition Awards. Recipients are recognized during the State Dinner at the Annual conference, featured on NASCIO's website and announced through press releases. The State Technology Champion Award recognizes one individual annually for outstanding contributions in the field of information technology in state government. NASCIO also offers the Meritorious Service Award annually to a state CIO in recognition of leadership in state government and the advancement of NASCIO's mission.
