NASCIO ANNOUNCES RECOGNITION AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING
ACHIEVEMENT IN THE FIELD OF
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
(Lexington, KY- September 19) - For the 14th Consecutive year, NASCIO, representing the chief information officers of the states, has selected winners to receive the 2001 Recognition Awards for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Information Technology. The awards are given annually to state IT programs and systems that have created proven cost-effective, innovative solutions in the operation of state government. This year the program received a record number of entries-117 nominations from 30 states. Winners were selected in nine categories and two additional projects received special recognition awards.
NASCIO President and chief information officer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Aldona Valicenti stated, "Now, more than ever before, it is important to recognize state IT projects that exemplify best practices. NASCIO's Awards program leads the way in this effort. We are pleased and honored to have received a record number of outstanding nominations. This year our winners truly represent the best of the best. Our congratulations go out to the winners."
NASCIO's Awards committee, comprised of state and corporate members, chose the award winners. Kay Argo, chief information officer for the State of Alabama, chaired the committee. Criteria for selection included a description of the project; length of time in operation; relative significance to the operation of government; benefits realized by service recipients, taxpayers, agencies, and the state; and return on investment. Full submissions from all nominations are posted on NASCIO's website at http://www.nascio.org.
