NASCIO Names West Virginia's Chief Technology
Officer
as Liaison to Federal CIO Council
(Lexington, KY) - The National Association of State Chief Information Officers has named Keith Comstock, chief technology officer for the state of West Virginia, to be the association's liaison to the Federal CIO Council for the coming year. NASCIO and the Federal CIO Council named ex officio positions to their respective boards last year. Comstock replaces Wendy Rayner, former chief information officer of New Jersey, who retired from state government in December 2001.
"We are extremely pleased to have Keith Comstock accept this important position for the association," said Rock Regan, NASCIO president and chief information officer for the state of Connecticut. "NASCIO is moving assertively to strengthen and build new relationships at the federal level. We are encouraged at the increasing level of interaction between federal officials, especially through our partnership with the Federal CIO Council."
NASCIO has also been working closely with Mark Forman, associate director for information technology and e-government at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget and the Federal CIO Council to prioritize a list of new e-government initiatives and encourage state involvement. Mr. Forman will address the NASCIO membership and discuss these projects at the association's upcoming 2002 Midyear Conference to be held April 7-9 in Denver.
In the coming spring, NASCIO will conduct its second annual Washington Fly-In meeting. The Fly-In meeting provides an opportunity for state chief information officers to discuss crucial issues that are affecting state information technology and interact with members of Congress and other senior government officials. NASCIO will work in concert with its federal partners on the issues of health, bioterrorism, cybersecurity, and funding to accomplish their mutual goals.
NASCIO represents the state chief information officers from the 50 states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Members include cabinet and senior level state officials responsible for information resource management. Other IT officials participate as associate members and private sector representatives may become corporate members.
