State Chief Information Officers Meet in DC to Discuss Critical IT Issues
(Lexington, KY) - NASCIO, representing chief information officers of the states, will hold its second annual DC Fly-In on May 22-23 at the Hilton Crystal City near Washington, DC.
A group of state CIOs will be meeting with members of Congress, administration officials and state congressional staffs to discuss issues affecting state IT. NASCIO members will present white papers on Architecture, Homeland Security, HIPAA, Identity Security and Authorization, and Commingling of Funds. In addition, they will present a white paper on a State ISAC Plan and report on the progress to date from last year's Fly-In. Since last May when the first Fly-In was conducted, Rock Regan (CT), Aldona Valicenti (KY), and Rich Varn (IA) have all represented NASCIO and presented testimony to Congress on such critical issues as bio-terrorism, identity security and e-government.
The Fly-In will consist of a full day of individual meetings between NASCIO members and national leaders and their staffs. The event will conclude with a half-day intergovernmental roundtable that will feature over 50 IT leaders from federal, state and local government. The roundtable, entitled "Stable Foundations for Security and Information Sharing," will focus on discovering commonalties regarding approaches to architecture and determining opportunities for shared development of architecture components. In addition, it will provide an opportunity for those participating to communicate best practices and foster intergovernmental relationships that are so critical to any successful approach to this issue.
White papers can be viewed at the NASCIO website following the Fly-In at www.nascio.org.
NASCIO is the National Association of State Chief Information Officers and represents the state chief information officers from the 50 states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Other IT officials participate as associate members and private sector representatives may become corporate members.
