Former Prime Minister, US Senator and Leading Science Fiction Author to Speak at 2003 NASCIO Annual Conference
(Lexington, KY) - The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) will convene for its Annual meeting at the Marriott Camelback Inn, in Scottsdale, Arizona on September 7-10, 2003. CIOs from 43 states will be in attendance with many of the states' newest participating. The conference is an opportunity for the key technology policy makers in each state to share information and develop new initiatives.
Featured speakers include keynote addresses by former Canadian Prime Minister Kim Campbell and award winning science fiction author and physicist David Brin. In addition, former US Senator and Nevada Governor Richard Bryan will speak on a conference session focusing on the basics of lobbying.
One of the highlights of the conference will be the presentation of the 2003 NASCIO Recognition Awards, honoring outstanding achievements in the field of information technology. Recipients from nine states will be recognized. In addition, in its inaugural year, the Meritorious Service award will be awarded to a state CIO exemplifying dedication state government IT and NASCIO. Press releases announcing all winners will be issued immediately following the ceremony on Tuesday, September 9.
The conference program will include sessions addressing some of the most pressing issues of the day such as homeland security, state IT budgets, IT purchasing, privacy and government transformation. In addition, during the enterprise architecture session clips from NASCIO's new architecture videos will be previewed and during the technology funding session, draft copies of the Trends and New Approaches in Technology brief will be released.
The conference will end with a half day of sessions on Wednesday, September 10. This day will feature a session about listening to new CIOs and a debate exploring whether previous successful careers in the public sector or in the private sector best prepare an official for success as a state CIO.
NASCIO represents the state chief information officers from the 50 states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Members include cabinet and senior level state officials responsible for information resource management. Other IT officials participate as associate members and private sector representatives may become corporate members.
