With the increasing turnover in state CIO positions, greater CIO outreach and orientation is especially important. NASCIO has established a CIO Outreach Committee, chaired by Indiana CIO Laura Larimer, to address this need.
In addition, NASCIO will continue its work in the area of information technology security with the formation of the Homeland Security and Cybersecurity Committees. The Homeland Security Committee, chaired by Rock Regan (CT) and vice chaired by Harry Lanphear (ME), will be charged with developing and coordinating mutual efforts with the newly created Department of Homeland Security. The Cybersecurity Committee, chaired by Harry Lanphear (ME) and vice chaired by George Newstrom (VA), will advance NASCIO's initiatives in the area of information assurance and protection of critical information technology assets.
Gaining momentum from its success in developing the NASCIO architecture framework and the explanatory document, the Adaptive Enterprise Architecture Tool-Kit, the Enterprise Architecture Committee, chaired by Gerry Wethington (MO), has created five subcommittees, each focused specifically on one category of program activity. The five subcommittees address the Tool-Kit, Intergovernmental Partnerships, Implementation Program, Program Administration, and Interoperability & Standards.
NASCIO will also continue its committee work in several other areas. The Privacy Committee, chaired by Washington State CIO Stuart McKee, will address individual privacy in the information age. The Customer Relationship Management Committee, chaired by Delaware CIO Tom Jarrett, is charged with leveraging relationships to improve services provided by the association or the states to their constituents. In addition, under the leadership of Commonwealth of Kentucky CIO Aldona Valicenti, NASCIO's Partnership Development Committee will continue to maintain and explore relationships between NASCIO and its relevant partners on the federal, state and local levels.
NASCIO is the National Association of State Chief Information Officers and represents the state chief information officers from the 50 states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Other IT officials participate as associate members and private sector representatives may become corporate members.
