NASCIO Executive Director to Step Down
(Lexington, KY) - After six years of service, the National Association of State Chief Information Officers' (NASCIO) Executive Director Elizabeth Miller VanMeter has announced that she will soon step down from her position to focus on family interests. She will remain in the position with AMR, NASCIO's association management firm, through the search for a new executive director, expected to conclude in April, when she hopes to continue to pursue her professional endeavors at a reduced pace.
"It has been an honor to lead NASCIO for the past six years," said VanMeter. "I have been gratified to see the association grow in both service delivery and national importance. It has been a great privilege to work with such a committed and insightful group of individuals -- from the membership, to the staff, to the many related groups we have built relationships with over the years."
During VanMeter's tenure, NASCIO's presence, resources and services have steadily grown. The association has gained prominence as an enterprise architecture leader for government, partnered with the National Governor's Association on IT issues, established a presence in Washington, D.C., and organized an annual D.C. "Fly-In" for state CIOs. The association's focus intensified on the delivery of services designed to foster government excellence and active partnerships with the federal government. The association's service expansion has been supported by a fivefold increase in its annual operating budget.
"Elizabeth's energy and skill have been instrumental to NASCIO's growth and evolution as an organization. Through her leadership, NASCIO is well established and widely recognized as the premier forum for government CIOs," said Gerry Wethington, CIO of Missouri and NASCIO's current president. "We join Elizabeth's many colleagues in thanking her for her dedication and commitment to improving government service delivery, intergovernmental cooperation, and public-private partnerships. We will miss her leadership and wish her well in all her future endeavors."
AMR will conduct a national search for a new NASCIO executive director. Information about the position can be found at www.amrinc.net/careers/index.cfm. A new director is expected to be on board in time for NASCIO's Midyear Conference April 25-27th in Chicago, Illinois.
NASCIO represents the state chief information officers from the 50 states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Members include cabinet and senior-level state officials responsible for information resource management. Other IT officials participate as associate members and private sector representatives may become corporate members.
