NASCIO Announces Douglas T. Robinson as Executive Director

(Lexington, KY) - The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) has announced that Douglas T. Robinson has been named NASCIO Executive Director by AMR, its association management company, effective May 3rd, 2004. Robinson, who has more than twenty-five years' experience in the IT field, has served as executive director, Governor's Office for Technology, Office of Policy and Customer Relations, for the Commonwealth of Kentucky since 1999.

"Having been an active member of NASCIO for many years, I am tremendously excited about this opportunity to serve the association in a new capacity," said Robinson. "NASCIO is at the forefront in contributing to sound business practices and excellence in technology policy in state government. I look forward to collaborating further with our CIOs and public and private sector partners in order to expand NASCIO's outreach and scope of influence."

Robinson served as executive director of the Office of the Kentucky Information Resources Management Commission from 1996-99 and executive director of the Kentucky Office of Geographic Information Systems from 1992-96. From 1977 to 1992 he was the technology transfer coordinator for NASA's Technology Applications Center at the University of Kentucky. Doug has a BA in Political Science from Maryville College in Maryville, TN and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Tennessee.

"Doug's strong executive experience in state information technology is a tremendous asset for NASCIO as it continues to expand its services and help leaders meet the challenges of managing government information technology policy in a dynamic world," said Gerry Wethington, CIO of Missouri and NASCIO's current president. "Doug has a strong background in enterprise architecture, customer relationship management and business processes. He has been 'in the trenches' and will bring this valuable perspective to his work."

Robinson is replacing Elizabeth Miller VanMeter who, while reducing her workload in order to spend more time with her family, will continue to support NASCIO in a new program management position. During her tenure, NASCIO's national presence, resources, and services have steadily grown. The association has gained prominence as an enterprise architecture leader for government, partnered with the National Governors Association on IT issues, established a presence in Washington, D.C., and organized an annual D.C. "Fly-In" for state CIOs. The association's focus intensified on the delivery of services designed to foster government excellence and active partnerships with the federal government. The association's service expansion has been supported by a fivefold increase in its annual operating budget.

NASCIO represents the state chief information officers from the 50 states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Members include cabinet and senior-level state officials responsible for information resource management. Other IT officials participate as associate members and private sector representatives may become corporate members.
