State CIOs Fly to Washington DC to Meet with Members of Congress
(Lexington, KY) - The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) will hold its fourth annual DC Fly-In on June 2-3, 2004.
State CIOs will be meeting with members of Congress, administration officials and state congressional staffs to discuss issues affecting state IT. "The Fly-In serves to reinforce NASCIO as the primary source for state technology policy and provides an opportunity for state CIOs to share their expertise on critical issues with officials from all levels of government," said NASCIO President and Missouri CIO Gerry Wethington. CIOs from 15 states will attend the Fly-In.
NASCIO members will provide policy makers with insight regarding the implications of technology-related legislation and on issues such as cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, federal IT funding reform, homeland security, privacy, procurement and wireless communications interoperability. Copies of the various issue briefs and calls for action are included in the attached.
The Fly-In will consist of a full day of individual meetings between NASCIO members and national leaders and their staffs. The event will conclude with a half-day intergovernmental roundtable that provides a venue for collaborative discussions among state CIOs and federal, state and local IT practitioners and policy makers. This year's roundtable will address the role of the state CIO in achieving wireless communications interoperability, with a focus on building intergovernmental partnerships and developing strategies that emphasize short-term solutions as well as long-term planning and architectural principles. Past roundtables have focused on cybersecurity, homeland security and enterprise architecture.
NASCIO is the National Association of State Chief Information Officers and represents the state chief information officers from the 50 states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Other IT officials participate as associate members and private sector representatives may become corporate members.
