NASCIO Releases SMART, its Online Resource Library

(Lexington, KY) - The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) has released its Strategic Materials and Resources Tool (SMART), an online resource library located on the NASCIO website at www.nascio.org. SMART gives NASCIO members the opportunity to search for state IT information on a broad variety of topics quickly and efficiently.

NASCIO President and Missouri CIO Gerry Wethington commented, "SMART is a comprehensive clearinghouse from multiple sources of information that will serve as an excellent network of resources for state CIOs and other NASCIO members. SMART exemplifies the service-oriented goals of the association's strategic plan. I encourage members to utilize and contribute to the information contained in SMART."

SMART currently contains articles, issue briefs, best practices, tools, presentations and member information pertaining to a wide range of key IT issues such as enterprise architecture, e-commerce, funding models, information and communications technology, funding cases, economic development, privacy, procurement, reliability and security. SMART serves as a collection of materials from a variety of sources. NASCIO will continue to add to and expand the scope of the library's online contents and encourages its public sector members to submit documents for consideration. In the coming months, SMART will also grow to include resources from the corporate community.

Although the SMART database is primarily intended for the use of the NASCIO members, the library does offer a collection of documents pertaining to enterprise architecture and other selected topics to both members and non-members. Membership in NASCIO is available to state, local and federal agencies, non-profit organizations and the private sector. For more information, please visit http://www.nascio.org/howToJoin/index.cfm.

NASCIO represents the state chief information officers from the 50 states, six U.S. territories and the District of Columbia. Members include cabinet and senior level state officials responsible for information resource management. Other IT officials participate as associate members and private sector representatives may become corporate members.
