NASCIO Receives U.S. Department of Justice Grant to Promote Intergovernmental Information Sharing

(Lexington, KY) - On September 11, 2007 the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) received official grant award notification from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) in the amount of $200,000, to promote the need for a common framework, or architecture, and standards for information sharing at all levels of government. This continues the partnership that began in 1998 between NASCIO and BJA to advance Enterprise Architecture and information sharing in the states.

"We are thrilled that the U.S. Department of Justice has granted us this opportunity. This generous award gives NASCIO the needed resources to further expand collaboration and information sharing at all levels of government for the benefit of taxpayers everywhere," said NASCIO President and Michigan Chief Information Officer Teri Takai.

The awarded grant proposal contains four objectives for the upcoming program year:

  • Expanding Cross Boundary Collaboration
  • Advance the promise of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
  • Advance the understanding and participation by state governments in NIEM
  • Maintain an expertise center in enterprise architecture providing management guidance and consultation in order to build capabilities at the state level

NASCIO's Enterprise Architecture program begins its 9th year as an expertise center in enterprise architecture. Its publications have become references for academia, government and industry enterprise architecture programs world wide. Visit www.nascio.org/committees/ea/ for additional information or to view program deliverables.

NASCIO is the premier network and resource for state CIOs and a leading advocate for technology policy at all levels of government. NASCIO represents state chief information officers and information technology executives from the states, territories, and the District of Columbia. The primary state government members are senior officials who have executive level and statewide responsibility for information technology leadership. State officials who are involved in agency level information technology management may participate as associate members. Representatives from other public sector and nonprofit organizations may also participate as associate members. Private sector firms may join as corporate members and participate in the Corporate Leadership Council.
