NASCIO Urges Action on IT Security—An Awareness-Raising Video for Government Leaders
(Lexington, KY) - NASCIO is pleased to announce the release of its new video, At Risk! Securing Government in a Digital World. A product of NASCIO's Security and Privacy Committee and IT Security Video Work Group, this video is designed to assist state CIOs in communicating the important message about why securing government technology is a critical concern in the digital world.
John Gillispie, Iowa CIO and NASCIO President, said “We are pleased to offer this very timely and critically important resource for state CIOs and other state leaders to help them strengthen the business case for IT security in their states. On behalf of NASCIO, we extend our thanks to the members of NASCIO’s Security and Privacy Committee, the IT Security Video Work Group and the ten corporate members whose sponsorship made this video a reality. Products like this are only possible with the involvement and support of our members.”
Technology supports virtually all government functions today. It allows states to serve their citizens in their daily lives as well as in times of crisis. However, government networks, systems and data are under constant attack from threats that are sophisticated and ever-evolving. This video presents a compelling story about the magnitude of the threats that all states face everyday. It is intended to help state CIOs raise awareness of the need for continuous and sufficient levels of resources dedicated to IT security in order to combat the current and emerging threats.
Dan Lohrmann, Michigan Chief Information Security Officer and Chair of NASCIO’s IT Security Video Work Group, said, “Securing state IT systems is an ongoing battle with several fronts. We must protect against outside intruders who are increasingly organized, profit-motivated and determined. In addition, we must also ensure that state employees and contractors use technology properly and are well-equipped to do their part in protecting state technology resources.”
