NASCIO's D.C. Fly-In to Focus on Cyber Security Grants

(Chantilly, VA)—Today state Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and policy officials from around the nation converged on Washington D.C. to participate in the eighth annual DC Fly-In, hosted by the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO).

Forty-two (42) state representatives participated in NASCIO’s 2008 DC Fly-In, and took the opportunity to meet with members of Congress, committee staff, federal agencies, as well as NASCIO’s strategic association partners, to discuss important state IT concerns, emerging trends and obtain briefings on key policy issues. NASCIO's 2008 Call for Action action focuses on strengthening national cyber security through a directed state homeland security grant program for state CIOs program funding. Visit www.nascio.org/advocacy/dcFlyIn/ to view the NASCIO Call for Action on this issue.

"The DC Fly-In allows state CIOs and their delegates to speak with a unified voice about important information technology policy issues,” said NASCIO President and Iowa CIO John Gillispie. “We share the knowledge and expertise of the states with Congressional leaders and officials from all levels of government in a way that can impact technology policies. Through collaboration we hope to improve technology policies from all aspects.”

NASCIO is the premier network and resource for state CIOs and a leading advocate for technology policy at all levels of government. NASCIO represents state chief information officers and information technology executives from the states, territories, and the District of Columbia. The primary state government members are senior officials who have executive level and statewide responsibility for information technology leadership. State officials who are involved in agency level information technology management may participate as state members. Representatives from other public sector and non-profit organizations may also participate as associate members. Private sector firms may join as corporate members and participate in the Corporate Leadership Council.
