NASCIO Takes an Assessment of State IT Funding Initiatives
(Lexington, KY) - NASCIO is pleased to announce the release of its newest publication, “Innovative Funding for State IT: Models, Trends & Perspectives.” A product of NASCIO's Innovative Funding for State IT Working Group, the report’s findings are based on a national survey of state CIOs that examines states' use of innovative or alternative funding models for information technology projects.
Also intended to update NASCIO’s 2003 publication, “Innovative Funding for Innovative State IT: New Trends and Approaches for State IT Funding,” this report provides state CIOs with information and tools for the facilitation of innovative funding initiatives in their own states that enable delivery of savings, and improved IT services to citizens. The report is available at www.nascio.org/publications.
"With the current fiscal crisis impacting most states, CIOs are faced with the ever increasing challenge of identifying funding streams to implement and update statewide enterprise systems that deliver essential services to its citizens on a daily basis,” said Richard Thompson, CIO for the State of Maine and Working Group Co-chair. “NASCIO is pleased to offer this report as a resource to assist CIOs as they seek to identify new funding streams for their states’ IT enterprises."
Rico Singleton, Deputy CIO for New York State and Working Group Co-chair, added that “states are utilizing new and innovative ways of stretching their state IT dollars to continue to provide their constituents with valuable services in an environment where state agencies increasingly have to compete for scarce revenue dollars. It is our hope that this report will serve as a useful tool for state CIOs as they face the demand of growing business needs with fewer financial resources to provide them.”
NASCIO is the premier network and resource for state CIOs and a leading advocate for technology policy at all levels of government. NASCIO represents state chief information officers and information technology executives from the states, territories, and the District of Columbia. The primary state government members are senior officials who have executive level and statewide responsibility for information technology leadership. State officials who are involved in agency level information technology management may participate as state members. Representatives from other public sector and non-profit organizations may also participate as associate members. Private sector firms may join as corporate members and participate in the Corporate Leadership Council.
