NASCIO Identifies Top Ten Priorities for State CIOs

(Lexington, KY) – The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) has published the Top Ten Policy and Technology Priorities for State CIOs. The prioritized list can be downloaded from the NASCIO website at www.nascio.org/publications.

Each year NASCIO conducts a survey of the state CIOs to identify and prioritize the top policy and technology issues facing state government. The top ten priorities are identified and used as input to NASCIO’s programs, planning for conference sessions, and publications.

State CIOs have multiple priorities and throughout the year priorities can change. Fiscal challenges continue to plague state government. Cyber security remains a top priority as cyber attacks continue to increase in frequency and level of sophistication. Connecting the nation and enabling ARRA reporting are near the top of the list. State CIOs are collaborating on ways to meet the challenges reflected in these top priorities for strategies and technologies.

"We surveyed the state CIOs to better understand their policy and technology priorities," said NASCIO President and Utah CIO Steve Fletcher. "This year's top priorities include Consolidation, Shared Services and Budget Control. We will use this data for collaborative initiatives and guides as we move through this program year."

NASCIO is the premier network and resource for state CIOs and a leading advocate for technology policy at all levels of government. NASCIO represents state chief information officers and information technology executives from the states, territories, and the District of Columbia. The primary state government members are senior officials who have executive level and statewide responsibility for information technology leadership. State officials who are involved in agency level information technology management may participate as state members. Representatives from other public sector and non-profit organizations may also participate as associate members. Private sector firms may join as corporate members and participate in the Corporate Leadership Council. For more information about NASCIO visit www.nascio.org
