CIOs Participate in NGA Forum on Public SafetyNASCIO was invited to participate in the "Preparing for Public Safety Broadband Forum," hosted by the National Governors Association (NGA) in Leesburg, Va., June 28-29. The meeting brings together more than 200 key state leaders, including 27 state CIOs and 18 NASCIO state members, to discuss preparations to build out the nationwide interoperable public safety broadband network, with the goal of educating both the governors and key state policymakers on challenges and opportunities related to public safety broadband. Private Sector IT Leaders Offer Advice to State CIOsThe NASCIO Programs Committee is excited to announce the panelist selection for the Annual Conference VIP session, "Navigating toward Success through Data and Analytics." Recognition Awards SpotlightThis month, the spotlight is on the State of West Virginia, which was recognized in the category Risk Management Initiatives in the 2011 NASCIO State IT Recognition Awards. NASCIO Director of Government Affairs Among WGR LeadersThe Women in Government Relations (WGR), Inc., a non-profit, non-partisan government relations associations, announced a new slate of leaders effective July 1, 2012. Among the list of volunteer leaders, our very own Pam Walker, NASCIO director of government affairs, was named one of the association's directors. Learn more about WGR at www.wgr.org. Events of InterestiHT2 Health IT Summit Annual Health Insurance Exchange Congress Committee & Work Group UpdatesThe Enterprise Architecture and Governance Committee held a call on June 14, with a presentation by Ashwini Jarral, director, program and technology services for the IJIS Institute. Jarral provided an overview of the new IJIS initiative springboard, which seeks to provide a venue to engage industry as a foremost avenue in driving the adoption and use of national information sharing and interoperability standards by justice, public safety and homeland security agencies. The presentation is available for NASCIO members in the NASCIO Community library. The Health Care Working Group is exploring options for the next set of deliverables as well as tracking the rulings that are expected to be announced by the U.S. Supreme Court during this last week of June. The IT Procurement Modernization Committee is developing a series of short issue briefs on IT procurement. This series will identify solutions to problems states run into during procurement and contracting. The committee is exploring the topics of enterprise procurements and performance bonds in conjunction with TechAmerica. The series is expected to be released in early July. The Social Media Forum is currently discussing targets for additional terms of service (TOS) negotiations. Discussions continue between NASCIO staff and YouTube to help clarify the TOS request process for state members. We urge states to continue forwarding requests to Liz Fossett at lfossett@amrms.com. The State and Local Collaboration Working Group hosted a call June 12 with a presentation on Nebraska's e-filing initiative. The working group continues to focus on a best practice framework for describing state and local collaborative initiatives. Forward best practices to Eric Sweden at esweden@amrms.com. The State Connectivity and Broadband Working Group is developing a response to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) request for information on the state and local grant program. The grant program is a component of the Spectrum Act passed earlier this year; the Spectrum Act will provide $7 billion for the development of a nationwide, interoperable public safety broadband network, from which $135 million will be available for state and local planning grants. The NASCIO comments are available online at NTIA and in the NASCIO Community. The State Digital Identity Working Group continues the comment period on the SICAM Guidance and Roadmap. Volunteers have submitted comments to the SICAM draft that is posted on the NASCIO Community. NASCIO: Making ConnectionsDoug Robinson, NASCIO executive director, and many state CIOs are participating in the National Governors Association Public Safety Broadband Forum, June 28-29 in Leesburg, Va. Robinson spoke at the Deloitte University State Government Industry Learning event, June 26-27 in Westlake, Texas Chad Grant, NASCIO senior policy analyst, attended the 2012 State Healthcare IT Connect Summit, June 19-21 in Dulles, Va. This is the third year NASCIO has partnered with Healthcare IT Connect. Charles Robb, NASCIO senior policy analyst, represented the association at the Global Privacy and Information Quality Working Group meeting, June 19-20 in Savannah, Ga.
