  • NASCIO Midyear Conference

    Join us for the 2008 NASCIO Midyear Conference, A Focus on the Enterprise: Campaigning for Change being held April 29 - May 2 in Chantilly, Virginia at the Marriott Westfields Washington Dulles. The event will feature a keynote address by Vance Hitch, Chief Information Officer at the US Department of Justice. Conference sessions include: Polling the Experts: Governors, Legislators and Their Budgets; Mining for Budget Gold: How to Pay for Your IT Initiatives; and The Government CIO Agenda: Campaigning for Innovation and Change. New this year, the Midyear Conference will feature a series of interactive Discovery Workshops. These workshops are an opportunity to explore critical topics in a more intimate and interactive setting. Discovery Workshop topics include: Reaping Results from the Government Performance Project; Enterprise Data Protection: A Hard Sell for CIOs; and The Emperor Has No Clothes: Facing the Brutal Reality about Continuity of Government Operations.   • NASCIO Plans 8th Annual DC Fly-In

    On April 29, state CIOs and senior IT officials will take part in NASCIO's 8th Annual DC Fly-In with visits to Capitol Hill, federal executive branch agencies and strategic partner organizations in Washington, DC. This yearly event is a key facet of NASCIO's advocacy and government affairs outreach, designed to establish and strengthen relationships at the federal level. The meetings provide an opportunity to reinforce recognition of NASCIO as the primary resource for policy makers on state information technology policy and implementation.
  • Corporate Leadership Council Meeting to Feature Guest Speaker

    NASCIO's Corporate Leadership Council (CLC), which represents all corporate members, will meet prior to the Midyear Conference on Wednesday, April 30 from 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm ET at the Marriott Westfields in Chantilly, VA. The meeting will include lunch and a working session on procurement led by David Gragan, Chief Procurement Officer for the District of Columbia.   • Workforce Brief Released

    The State IT Workforce Working Group released "The Workforce Evolution: Recruiting and Retaining State IT Employees" on April 9. This brief focuses on recruitment and retention tactics for state CIOs by examining traditional and innovative recruitment strategies, successful retention initiatives and state best practices in each of these areas.   • All States Conference Call on the Digital Television (DTV) Transition

    This conference call is Wednesday, April 16 at 2:00 PM Eastern Time and is restricted to State CIOs, state policy officials, public safety communications staff and other interested state IT officials.   • Doug Robinson, NASCIO Executive Director, attended the Council of State Archivists (CoSA) IPER Project Advisory Meeting on March 27 in Atlanta, GA.
  • Steve Fletcher, CIO, State of Utah, Doug Robinson, NASCIO Executive Director, and Eric Sweden, NASCIO Enterprise Architect attended the Global Advisory Committee Meeting on April 10 in Washington D.C. Bob Wooley, CTO of Utah, presented on SOA.

Staff Transitions

We are pleased to announce that Dash Nagel has joined AMR Management Services as the new Association Services Coordinator (ASC) for NASCIO. Dash will be responsible for the day-to-day business management of the association to include budgeting, financials, workplan monitoring, travel reimbursements, special projects and grants management. Dash will assist in a number of key areas including support for the Executive Committee, contract compliance and records management. Dash brings several years of valuable and related experience working for a large national association.

    Committee & Work Group Updates

    • NASCIO's "State Members Only" Consolidation and Shared Services Forum held a call on Tuesday, April 15, featuring a presentation on Michigan's consolidation initiatives presented by George Boersma, Michigan's Director of Technology Partnerships.
    • The Enterprise Architecture Committee is drafting the second in a series on Governance - Introduction to Data Governance.
    • The Enterprise Architecture Committee is looking for examples of state governance models and programs. Please contact Eric Sweden at 859-514-9189 or esweden@amrms.com.
    • The Innovative Funding for State IT Working Group is drafting an all-states survey that will be distributed to state CIOs to identify innovative funding methods and models that will provide the backdrop for a forthcoming publication to update NASCIO's 2003 Innovative Funding for Innovative State IT report.
    • The Legacy Systems & Modernization Working Group is drafting an all-states survey that will be distributed to state CIOs to gauge the primary issues and points-of-concern for state IT organizations as they relate to the modernization of legacy IT systems and applications and provide a summary of the results to set a baseline for further research on the topic.
