Many state CIOs are evaluating the options for migrating state e-mail and other productivity tools to a hosted environment. This is hot topic among NASCIO state members. The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), a recognized national leader in K-12 education technology, has recently migrated to a hosted cloud solution for e-mail and collaboration. KDE selected Microsoft [email protected] to bring 21st-century communications and collaboration tools to more than 700,000 students, faculty and staff statewide. The cloud-based service has already been rolled out to more than half a million people in one of the largest cloud deployments and fastest migrations of all time. The system is expected to save the state $6.3 million over four years in operational costs.
