Summary of Work Individual will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and support of base stations/repeaters, mobile and handheld radios for the State of North Dakota Radio System, the installation and support of the Intelligent Transportation System, Road Weather Information Systems, and other technical service support. In addition to the technical aspects of this job, the maintenance of accurate records, use of computer/office automation equipment and communicating effectively with others are essential components of this job. Individual must be organized, detail-oriented, understand the importance of proper follow-through, have strong verbal communication skills, understand quality assurance and know how to enforce the terms and conditions of contracts and maintenance agreements with third party vendors, to get the job done. Experience working with network and telecommunication equipment including installation, termination, and testing of copper wiring and fiber optic cables are desired. In State (North Dakota), travel is required along with a valid driver’s License. Lifting requirement of 30 to 50 pounds. Duties and Tasks Strategic planning including identifying, evaluating and researching the future for ITS applications, networks and hardware for NDIT and the DOT. Includes capacity planning, technology research and feasibility studies. Provide support and documentation to field technicians and act as liaison with utility companies and private vendors. Assist other Engineers with planning new installations and upgrades to the State’s Public Safety Radio System including the planned deployment of the new SIRN (Statewide Interoperable Radio Network) system. Assist with system design and integration when needed at State tower sites and other project work locations. Design and Engineer ITS and Radio for various locations across the state. Provide support for the maintenance and repair of ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) devices, Highway Message Board Systems, Road Weather Information Systems, and Highway Cameras. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems, network systems or related field Three years of current and progressive experience in planning, design, installation, testing, support and management of a large, complex, network/VoIP infrastructure supporting multiple locations. Experience may substitute for the educational requirement on a year for year basis. Note: NDIT will attempt to fill this position at the Network Administrator II level if unable to find candidates who meet the above outlined minimum qualifications; the hiring authority reserves the right to under fill this position Network Administrator I. NDIT will train the successful candidate in any areas of unfamiliarity.
