Technology champion award

The NASCIO Technology Champion Award recognizes one individual each year whose leadership has shaped how technology is positioned, supported and applied within the public sector.

This award honors individuals who champion technology as a strategic, transformational force – strengthening government operations and delivering positive outcomes for citizens.


Nominees may come from any sector and have:

Who should be nominated

  • Led technology efforts that reshaped how work gets done or services are delivered, and/or
  • Created the vision, structures, and support that enable technology to make a sustained difference

State CIOs are NOT eligible for this award

Who may submit a nomination

  • Nominators must be affiliated with a NASCIO member organization
  • Self-nominations are not accepted
  • Corporate members may only submit one nomination
  • Nominations must foruc on the individual’s leadership and impact
    • those that focus on a relationship with a company and/or the use or implementation of specific services or platforms will not be considered

  • By the NASCIO Executive Committee, drawing on their collective expertise as state technology leaders

Describe how the nominee’s personal leadership has contributed to the effective and transformational use of technology in the public sector

Demonstrated Impact (300 word max)

Describe the measurable impact the nominee has had in advancing technology as an effective tool for government

  • Include specific outcomes and results when possible
  • Go beyond cost savings to highlight citizen impact
  • If accomplishments are limited to one state or area of government, explain how they could be replicated or useful to others
