NASCIO’s Emerging Leaders Program is a year-long initiative designed to invest in those aspiring for a career in public sector IT. This pilot program kicks off with an in-person leadership course on July 29 – 31, 2024, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, followed by a series of virtual learning sessions in November, February and May.

To further the Emerging Leaders exposure to state IT leaders, this event will be held in conjunction with the CIO, CISO, Chief Privacy Officer and Deputies Leadership Summits, offering expanded networking opportunities.


  • The State CIO is responsible for selecting one indivdiual to be part of this year-long program
  • This is a pilot program – NASCIO will evaluate the program after this initial year for future years
  • The program will run from July to June, kicking off with an in-person leadership course July 29 – 31 in Milwaukee (details below)
  • The program will hold virtual leadership courses in November, February and May – see agenda
  • Those taking part in the program will have access to their own NASCIO community to share information and network throughout the year

Rooming: NASCIO will book rooms for arrival on July 29 and departure on August 1 – if a different arrival/departure is required, please contact Lisa Thompson.
Travel: NASCIO will provide a $600 travel stipend to all attendees. Attendees should book and pay for their travel and will be provided instructions after the event on how to submit receipts for the reimbursement. The Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) is the closest and most convenient airport to the hotel. For travel planning, registration will start at 2:30 pm CST on Monday, July 29, and the course will wrap-up with a joint networking dinner with Leadership Summit attendees at 9 pm on Wednesday, July 31.
