NASCIO Statement of Support for H.R.5078 – The PILLAR Act
The National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) supports reauthorization of the State and Local Cybersecurity Program and is encouraged that the House will soon take up consideration of H.R. 5078, the Protecting Information by Local Leaders for Agency Resilience (PILLAR) Act. This bipartisan bill would extend and strengthen the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP), which has become essential to state governments for cybersecurity resilience.
“Continued and predictable funding for SLCGP is critical to sustaining a ‘whole-of-state’ approach to cybersecurity,” said Doug Robinson, NASCIO Executive Director. “The PILLAR Act reflects the priorities we’ve outlined to ensure states can protect essential services and support local governments facing growing cyber threats. While no bill is perfect and we look forward to working with our colleagues to ensure that the final version of this legislation includes attainable financial requirements for recipients and is accompanied by appropriate funding levels, we are encouraged that the House is poised to advance this measure.”
Cybersecurity remains the top priority for state CIOs nationwide. NASCIO urges the House to advance H.R. 5078 and ensure that every state, territory, and local partner has the resources and stability needed to defend against evolving cyber risks.
