A very necessary and important part of our annual proceedings is the NASCIO State CIO Top Ten Ballot. For the last 20 years we’ve asked state CIOs to prioritize their strategies and technologies. We’re ready for you to consider 2027.
This year’s ballot has been modified somewhat. We’ve added a new Section C to this ballot. In Section C we are looking for examples of applications that employ AI, GenAI, Agentic AI capabilities. Please highlight 3 of your state’s examples of business applications that employ AI, GenAI, Agentic AI capabilities and provide some details regarding these applications below. This section is optional. The results from this ballot will be used to construct our State CIO Top Ten Strategies and our Top Ten Technologies.
These results are important for the Executive Committee in formulating our NASCIO programs, projects and initiatives. This document is also viewed as a critical message to the marketplace, the media and our strategic partners. The State CIO Top Ten has historically been the singular most important message we send to anyone regarding state government.
The Executive Committee asks you to think about what your priorities are in 2026 – and as you forecast into 2027:
- what do you see as your priorities?
- what is on the horizon for your state?
- what are three examples of applications that employ AI, GenAI Agentic AI capabilities?
We need your ballot by DATE, so we can compile the results. Only aggregate data will be reported and not your individual selections on the ballots. The voting process will only take a few minutes. To assist in preparation, a PDF version of the ballot is available (insert link).
Confidentiality of response: We will preserve the confidentiality of the responses of this survey. Section C responses will only be distributed to state CIOs.
Completing the ballot: We ask that all parts of this ballot be completed by the state or territorial chief information officer. This should not be delegated to a designee though collaboration with your key staff is encouraged.
Please contact Eric Sweden or Doug Robinson if you have any questions.
