This is the 20th year of the State CIO Top 10 published by NASCIO and includes responses from 51 state and territory CIOs. This year’s headline: artificial intelligence takes the number one spot for the first time, overtaking cybersecurity, which held the top position for 12 straight years. Other notable shifts include significant upward movement for accessibility and budget and cost control; the return of consolidation to the list; and declines for digital government and data management. NASCIO uses the Top 10 to shape strategic priorities, guide new workgroups and issue forums, and inform conference programming and publications for the year ahead.
